Carpet Planning Checklist

Difficulty: Moderate · Typical timeline: 1-2 days

A free planning checklist for your carpet project. Use it to scope the work, set a realistic budget, sort out permits, and decide whether to DIY or hire. It is a planning head start, not the full plan: for localized costs, exact materials and tools, and step-by-step detail, the Project Blueprint goes the rest of the way.

01Define the scope

  • Write down exactly what you want done and why (a repair, an upgrade, or a full replacement). Scope creep is the number one budget killer.
  • Measure and record your square feet of carpet. Size is usually the single biggest driver of the final price.
  • Pick a quality tier up front: budget, mid, or premium. The same project can cost several times more at the top tier.
  • Take clear before photos from a few angles. They help with quotes, permits, and tracking progress.
